Emergency Reimbursement for a Survivor

This is what we do.

This week, a student came to an Arm Your Friends class not just to learn but to stand up for herself. She’s facing an escalating situation of intimate partner violence. Her ex has been showing up unannounced, intoxicated, and recently slashed her tires. She turned to this community for help.

She received a free class. She left with free defensive ammo. I went to her home to help her post a “No Trespassing” sign, one of the first steps the police require before they’ll act. She trained hard, mastered the safety fundamentals, and made the decision to protect herself. She purchased her first defensive tool and paid out of pocket which is nearly $500 she didn’t plan to spend.

And now, we’re asking you to help her get that money back.

Because this is what our community does.

We don’t let people face danger alone. We don’t make survivors carry the cost of their own safety. When someone raises their hand for help: we show up. That’s who we are. That’s who you are.
