The Outdoor Crew after a monthly range day

This crew is not for everyone. The average member has been here 4.8 years. Once you're voted in, you're not a customer. You're one of the people holding this thing up.

LAST SATURDAY OF THE MONTH

One Saturday a month in West Houston we run the line: carbines, pistols, tactics. The steel and the gear come out of a warehouse we stock ourselves, and nobody shoots next to a stranger. Newer members get coached through the day. Everyone leaves sharper than they showed up.

And we hold each other to the standard: if a firearm is part of your self defense plan, you train with it at least monthly. Range day covers the live fire. Warehouse nights every Thursday (dry fire, weapon cleaning, technique work, free for members) cover everything between.

That's the whole pitch. Everything below is how we protect it.

THE VOTE

You cannot buy your way in. There is no checkout page for this crew, and there never will be.

How it actually happens: take a class with us and tell an instructor you want in. After a range day, once everyone has gone home, your name comes up. The crew talks. The members vote.

Sometimes the vote is "not yet." You'll hear it straight, and the door doesn't close. That's what makes the yes mean something.

WHO GETS VOTED IN

You're the one who shows up early to hang steel and stays late to load it. The one who just learned something and turns around to teach it. The one who listens more than they talk, and asks how to help run the day instead of waiting to be asked.

  • An active community servant
  • Eager to learn and to share knowledge
  • Humble, pragmatic, and quick to help facilitate range days
  • Embodies our values: protecting marginalized people, women, and POC, and standing with those who cannot protect themselves
  • Not a career contrarian looking for validation of a worldview. You care more about the state of Houston and your neighbors than political labels, national politics, campaigns, or ideologies

Bonus points: a positive track record working with other organizations. Not an organization hopper, and not someone who struggles to get along with others.

THE DUES: SLIDING SCALE

Once you're voted in, you pick your number. Same membership, same access, at every level:

  • $40, work trade. Labor counts toward dues.
  • $70, preferred level. About what range days cost you now.
  • $100, equal share. Your true share of the storage, warehousing, and everything that makes range days possible.
  • $150, generous. Covers the attendance of people who'd otherwise be priced out.

Nobody checks your finances. Nobody gets turned away over money.

MORE THAN A GUN CLUB

Most people take community infrastructure for granted until they need it. We're building the version nobody built for us: training, gear, range days, and a warehouse that belong to the community. No NRA money. No sponsorships from military-industrial contract chasers. For the people, by the people. Built to protect survivors and empower everyone the mainstream leaves out. It stays independent one way: the community commits to carrying it. That's what your membership is. Forever.
